Intro to Neocolor ll Aquarelle pastels
FEATURES
• Water-soluble wax pastels; use dry or with water
• Matte finish, opaque until thinned
• 84 standard colors with good to excellent lightfast ratings
• Use on paper, canvas, hardboard, and other surfaces
• Make a variety of marks: grainy, smooth, washy, scumbled, drippy, etc.
• Draw lines; rub a stick sideways; brush over marks with water; draw on a wet surface — see image for more.
• Marks can be reactivated with water (until sealed)
• Great for mixed media art
Here are my favorite supplies to use with acrylics and Neocolor 2 pastels.
EXAMPLE of NEO 2 MARKS on Canvas
Left side has clear gesso; right side has matte gel texture
• Draw line with dry pastel
• Make squiggly line with dry pastel
• Apply dry then brush with water
• Dampen pastel in water before drawing
• Apply damp pastel then brush with water
• Wet canvas before drawing squiggly line
• Rub side of damp pastel across canvas
• Drag side of pastel; dip in water several times
• Mix pastel + water on palette; apply with brush
• Apply liquified pigment with a brush
• Mix a puddle on palette; apply enough to get drips
